Classroom Management
I believe that it is important to establish classroom management from the very first day of school by teaching rules and procedures to the class. Students need to know the expectations in the classroom to be successful. I believe that there should be both rewards and consequences for behavior. I feel that having a visual of the rules and procedures is helpful as well as having a visual of how the students are doing on that day help remind students to try hard and make good choices. I have used a Go Green Chart with my younger students and a Classroom Economy with my older students.
The pictures below are examples of the charts I use in my classroom. I use a “GO Green” Chart for behavior, Job Chart, Lunch Chart, and Daily Schedule.

I created “Golden Tickets” to give to students in my classroom that are making good choices, being helpful, being kind, or responsible. At the end of each week I pick a few Golden Tickets from the basket and those students get to pick a prize.
I use “Good Notes Home” for students that show behavior improvements or students that are setting a good example in the classroom.
For students that flip a card to orange I use a “Think Sheet”. Students explain what happened and how they can handle the situation better next time. Sometimes parents are asked to read, sign, and return it to school.
The expectations of the classroom are posted in two ways. I have a large poster of classroom rules and a small Behavior Barometer poster next to the Go Green Chart.
