Assessment & Data
Data and assessment are the foundation of my teaching. I use data to drive my instruction on every level. Classroom assessments are extremely important to my instruction, but they do not always have a grade attached. I have found some of the most important and useful assessments are the ones that do not have grades tied to them. In my classroom I use pre assessments to determine where I need to start teaching each unit and I use post assessments to determine who has mastered the objectives of the unit. Tracking student progress helps me determine what areas need to be covered as whole group, small groups, or with an individual student. I collect data using various assessments and analyze data by using multiple methods. Read more about How I Use Data to Drive Instruction.
Data Binders: I use a Data Binder as a way to keep all of my data analysis organized in one place. I keep data for reading assessments, reading groups, writing samples, math assessments, math groups, classroom interventions, RTI, behavior, and Benchmark Data. I use class spreadsheets to show students strengths and weaknesses in a particular area as well as their growth from month to month.
I also used Student Data Binders for students to keep track of their own work and success. Students graph their progress in reading, writing, and math. These are also used a place to keep students assessments.
